Archiving Deceit

Now, I don’t know if this is going to a be a shock to some of you but bookstagram accounts archive their photos!!

Ohhhhh why? What does this mean? Is that the sound of the ice cream van in the distance?

Why?

Cause they can.

Many bookstagram accounts do it for many reasons and most of the time they are honestly done, while others are going about it cheekily and that’s where you get your iced tea, pull a chair and listen up.

Now before I dive into this rant let’s cover a few things:

  1. I won’t be naming and shaming in this rant. There isn’t a valid reason for it, they technically haven’t done anything to warrant a name and shame session. Instead I hope they read this and learn from it…? One can hope right?? Honesty is still something to be valid, or at least I fucking hope it is.
  2. I have archived photos. Yep me. I will raise my hand and admit that it is something that I do. Don’t know if yall were following me back in the day but I had a soft white fluffy theme! I knowww, the complete opposite of my personality – what was I thinking!?!?! Well in a time before my dark and glorious bookcases it was all I had to work with and I went with it. But since moving to my no filter dark library I archived all my fluffy photos. I mean if I am going to get labelled dark and brutal I am going to run with it all the way! I also archived photos from giveaways/shout outs/rep entries and a bunch photos that included my fat face before my weight loss (look I don’t need that negative face looking at me while I enjoy my pizza alright?!) But I don’t hide the fact that I do.

But there is no shame in archiving photos – none at all. But it is just something to be mindful when you are looking at an account with a large following and a few photos that they have been archiving. Let’s be honest about it – only celebrities really get a large following with a few photos. But we are mere bookstagrammers – mighty and the world just ain’t ready for that level of fucking awesomeness yet.

But over the past few months there has been a lot of newbie bookstagrammers in chat groups that are astonished by big accounts with a few photos. So, dip your crunchy ginger snap cookie in that ice tea and take on what I am about to say. Honey – they did not get that big overnight. There has been years of spending days taking photos, posting the two or three photos a day to get that following. Years of loving books spent on an Instagram page.

Now I ain’t saying that you need to not archive! I eat like a hippo but I ain’t no hypocrite. If you want to archive go right ahead – just don’t fucking lie about it.

Yep. Dropped the f- bomb. But I am soo tired of people not owning their own shit. When people lie publicly to make themselves feel better, doesn’t highlight how cool they are, it just highlights that they have some personal demons to get over. Legit no one cares about how long you have been on bookstagram for. This is not a huge thing! There isn’t some bookstagram bylaw that you can have limited photos per following. THE ONLY PERSON YOU ARE LYING TO, IS YOURSELF!!

“Yay I have just posted my 500 photo”

  • Yeah for the third time this year Karen!!!!!

“I’m celebrating my 1 year bookstagram anniversary”

  • Dude! Who the fuck are you kidding, you have been doing this longer then me!

Start looking at photo numbers. There are actually a few accounts that keep their photos between 650 to 700 or when they hit that 10k sweet spot they take their photos down to 300.

So why am I bringing up the lying? Is it really that big of a deal?

Cause I can and yeahh it kinda is.

Why aren’t people telling the truth? Does it put you on Krampus’ shit list? Do you get a dollar for every lie you spread? I don’t get the reason why anyone would have to lie about the smallest of things. There isn’t going to be a version of the truth in these situations that can reflect badly on them, so why lie instead of telling the truth?

The biggest lie that gets me is about how long they have been on bookstagram.

“I have only been doing this for a year”

Mateee. You have been doing this since Instagram became an app for fuck sake. Since dinosaurs were pooping. Since cartoon network fucking launched. You have been on here so god damn long but why are you lying about it?? Do you think your followers that followed you three years ago left so they can’t call you out on your shit? Or did you just forget that I follow you… and I can see your lies!

No one cares how long you have been on bookstagram. It doesn’t make you cool if you have only been on Instagram for a few months but have a few thousand followers or have been on here for years with a few hundred. If you are focusing on the number photos you have up on your feed and lying about it, it reflects something about you that maybe you don’t want to the world to see…

If you honestly think people are judging you on your bookstagram anniversary then maybe you need to rethink the reason you started bookstagram in the first place. Because if it is all about followers vs time spent on the ‘gram then you aren’t an account I want to follow.

I don’t see the reasoning for lying about this. If you honestly can think of a valid reason, then let me know. But I am really fucking over seeing accounts archive a shit load of photos from previous years and then post a photo tapping themselves on the back for being on bookstagram for a year. So, from now on. If I see a post like that and I damn well know you are lying out of your freshly bleached asshole – I’m going to call that shit out.

Archiving is fine, the deceit that follows it I don’t like at all.

Stop lying.

Own ya shit.

Stop focusing on what others perceive of you and start recommending books!!

Keep it creepy book lovers

Blue xx
