Instructions for Dancing, Nicola Yoon

Thank you Penguin Teen Australia for this book in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis:

Evie Thomas doesn’t believe in love anymore. Especially after the strangest thing occurs one otherwise ordinary afternoon: She witnesses a couple kiss and is overcome with a vision of how their romance began . . . and how it will end. After all, even the greatest love stories end with a broken heart, eventually.

As Evie tries to understand why this is happening, she finds herself at La Brea Dance studio, learning to waltz, fox-trot, and tango with a boy named X. X is everything that Evie is not: adventurous, passionate, daring. His philosophy is to say yes to everything–including entering a ballroom dance competition with a girl he’s only just met.

Falling for X is definitely not what Evie had in mind. If her visions of heartbreak have taught her anything, it’s that no one escapes love unscathed. But as she and X dance around and toward each other, Evie is forced to question all she thought she knew about life and love. In the end, is love worth the risk?

Review:

How do you vote in favour of love if you keep seeing it being destroyed?

Instructions for Dancing is based around Evie who has an angst for love after finding out her parents are getting a divorce due to her dad’s indiscretions and when Evie realises, she has an added gift, it does not really vote in loves favour. I mean if you saw the end of every relationship after seeing them kiss, you would not be counting the ballots for love. That is until Evie meets someone that is going to teach her a lesson on love.

How typical for a Yoon masterpiece to draw you in with such a beautiful story, wonderful characters that you cannot help but adore and then break your heart like it was a 2pm agenda. Real tears, broken soul type behaviour. So don’t say I didn’t warn you, you will adore this book, even while your heart breaks.
