Review:

I have never read any of Australian writer Jen Wilde’s work before, but I am pleased to say that I will be keeping an eye out for more of her work. The characters in this novel are modern and relatable. It is inspiring to see characters in a novel that are so versatile, the two main characters being polar opposites of each other but yet great friends. Taylor suffers from anxiety a day to day issue that many deal and low self-esteem, while Charlie is popular and famous and outgoing, but never forgets who her real friends are and has strong morals. Wilde has a great understanding of teenage life and how to express this onto the pages. This wonderful story flows smoothly throughout the book and you find yourself almost standing at SupaCon yourself as a by stander watching Taylor, Charlie and Jamie and the excitement their life holds over this three-day event. Wilde captures the moments of heartbreak as Charlie gets caught up in memories of her recent horrid break up.

Thought I was slightly taken back by the bright pink cover (not really my color) I was once again taught the lesson of never judge a book but its cover as Queens of Geek was a complete page turner and hard to put down and that’s coming from a person who prefers fantasy. This is the type of book that YA readers should be picking up and hopefully inspiring the young audience that no matter what life brings, friends is what matters.
