A Court of Mist and Fury, Sarah J Maas

Synopsis:

Feyre survived Amarantha’s clutches to return to the Spring Court—but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can’t forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin’s people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms—and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future—and the future of a world cleaved in two.

Review:

Fair warning this contains spoilers!!

I didn’t waste any time between reading ACOTAR and this book, I was completely sucked into this world. There are no real words to express how amazing this book is and I don’t even know where to begin to describe how awesome this book is!!

The plot was fascinating and picked right up where ACOTAR finished, and making you fall in love with every single word. Now just to let you know, the first few chapters are focus around Fey and Tamlin and the build up to their wedding. And for you Tamlin haters out there don’t worry obviously Rhys sweeps in and saves the day while bringing Fey into his life and his world… *sigh* Gah this book was amazing and so full of love. That’s right love. I am by no means a romance reader but this book just blew my mind and toyed with my emotions beyond belief. Damn you SJM! You know how break my heart and leave me in the corner crying for more.

Feyre was the core meaning behind girl power by the end of this book, though she had to overcome some person obstacles to get there. The events that Fey under took in the first book; crushed her soul, spirit and body, and living under the depressing cage that Tamlin provided was bleak to say the least. Future husband of the year right there! But she does find herself again, finds her creative soul, her generous heart and her caring nature and most importantly her will to live. Fey emerges into a strong, power and brave lady that truely makes you proud.

Oh Rhysand. The elegant bad boy, filled with cunning tricks, arrogance and selfishness. Putting his people and family above all else. His flirty and dangerous mind. I mean there are a thousand words that could describe how amazing this character is but unfortunately he isn’t real and has set real high expectations of a fictional male character. And when he reveals his past, his fears and the love he has for her, well you better get ready to have your heart broken. What I loved most about this character is he put Feyre on a petal stool and let her shine. He truely let her be herself, encouraging her to embrace her power, speak her mind and decide her own fate in that world. To Rhysand, Feyre was an equal, a wonder and woman who he marvelled after.

Don’t get me on the wrong foot with what I am about to say but Tamlin really isn’t that bad. I know! But… let’s put it down to SJM’s fantastic writing and creating the different views that Tamlin and Rhysand held over Feyre. Tamlin was written to be the bad guy who locked her up, treated her as though she was a child and left her alone while she was truely going through something traumatic. If I had written this review a a month a go I would have agreed with you that he doesn’t deserve to even look at Feyre again but the more I thought about it the more I concluded that he actually did what he thought was right. He kept her in his home where she was protected, while he tried to figure out what to do with all this power that she now had and sure as hell had no idea what do with. Keep in mind that she is simply fell out of love with Tamlin and fell into the arms of the dreamy Rysand.

And let’s not forget the Night Court. Is there any where else in the world that could be more perfect to live. Perfect! Let me say that one more time. Perfect! I loved being introduced to this new exciting world and meeting the inner circle. Amrem a snide character who you grows on you as you wait for her to unleash her inner terror on the world. Azriel a distant beauty who barely shows much of his true self in this book, but you cannot help but love the banter between him, Rhys and Cassian. Cassian and Mor are beautiful, wonderful and completely loveable. SJM has beyond done a wonderful job of creating brilliant smart and in depth characters that you know that you cannot live without and you sit there in the corner of your home library, rocking back and forth begging for more.

This is my favourite book of 2017 and it’s only October! This book is about self discovery, never letting anyone push you into a corner and overcoming the fears and depression that can wear you down. And what you are willing to do for love, friends, family and what you believe in.
