Synopsis:
On a floating junkyard beneath a radiation sky, a deadly secret lies buried in the scrap. Eve isn’t looking for secrets—she’s too busy looking over her shoulder. The robot gladiator she’s just spent six months building has been reduced to a smoking wreck, and the only thing keeping her Grandpa from the grave was the fistful of credits she just lost to the bookies. To top it off, she’s discovered she can destroy electronics with the power of her mind, and the puritanical Brotherhood are building a coffin her size. If she’s ever had a worse day, Eve can’t remember it. But when Eve discovers the ruins of an android boy named Ezekiel in the scrap pile she calls home, her entire world comes crashing down. With her best friend Lemon Fresh and her robotic conscience, Cricket, in tow, she and Ezekiel will trek across deserts of irradiated glass, infiltrate towering megacities and scour the graveyard of humanity’s greatest folly to save the ones Eve loves, and learn the dark secrets of her past. Even if those secrets were better off staying buried.
Review:
Wow. This book was an enjoyable read. Not fantastic but still enjoyable. Don’t hate me just yet, I did after all give it 4/5 stars but there was just a few thinks that I found …dull.
Let’s start with the amazeballs moments of this book:
The two female characters were bad-ass and brilliant. I loved them! I mean what couldn’t you love about two rough and tough friends that have time to share a joke while they KICK some major cyborg ass! Lemon Fresh was the cherry on top of a delicious cake, as well as the cool-whip and the fricken amazing cake. I mean, I’m clearly obsessed and would let her hit me with her rad baseball bad if we could catch up for coffee and throw sugar packets at rich snobs. It could happen right?! Lemon Fresh and Eve were ultimate friend goal, endearing, support and ready to stand for anything to save each other. Eve, well…. GAHHH how to put this? Well she was awesome at the start of the book and well that last few pages made me want to out her feet in cement and throw her over a bridge. You will understand what I mean when you read the book but that chick and her shifty attitude adjustment just bumped her down a few notches on my fav character list and roll my eyes.
Did I mention the robot Cricket that is the bot legend, to be honest his witty come backs and energy made the book for me and I have decided to spend my life searching for a little Cricket bot of my own. Who wouldn’t?!?!
Hmmm suppose we better took about Ezekiel who had less of an emotion response than a chair. He was dull, hopelessly and pathetically in love and well *vomit* hatedddd it! He need more depth, some sassy remarks and well a lot. For a creature that is meant to be a ‘lifelike’ created in our human image, he sucked. Not that he wouldn’t even get offended by that….. bloody chair.
I suppose I should tell you the one last thing that I found disappointing before I move onto everything else that made this book great. Ohh shh I promise this is the last one. The ending was PREDICTABLE! It really was, I figured out what Eve was about 10 pages in. Don’t get me wrong I usually predict what is about to happen in the books but this kinda made my heart punch its way through my chest and take a vacation.
Wow I started with the negatives, well gotta be prepared or at least prepare someone I guess! Other than those small things the remainder of the book was great! It was honestly a mix of iRobot, Romeo & Juliet and X-men and one of those books that you had to finish asap. That and I love the AUS cover! Overall it is a great book and I cannot wait to see where this goes!
