Thank you Pan MacMillan books for this book in exchange for an honest review
Synopsis:
Time is running out.
Together, they can save the world.
But they are each other’s worst nightmare.
Nova’s double life is about to get a lot more complicated:
As Insomnia, she is a full-fledged member of the Renegades, a syndicate of powerful and beloved superheroes. She works with Adrian’s patrol unit to protect the weak and maintain order in Gatlon City.
As Nightmare, she is an Anarchist – a member of a group of villains who are determined to destroy the Renegades. Nova wants vengeance against the so-called heroes who once failed her when she needed them most.
But as Nova, her feelings for Adrian are deepening, despite the fact that he is the son of her sworn enemies.
Nova, Adrian, and the rest of their crew are faced with escalating crime in Gatlon City, while covert weapons and conflicting missions have Nova and Adrian questioning not only their beliefs about justice, but also the feelings they have for one another.
The line between good and evil has been blurred, but what’s clear to them both is that too much power could mean the end of their city – and the world – as they know it.
Review:
I loved Renegades but somehow the sequel Archenemies surpassed that? Usually sequels are kind of a space filler between the first and third book and usually spend a majority of the time explain why things happened in the first and setting up the third book. Archenemies however was fantastic from start to finish and I loved every single page!
Though Archenemies dives a little into the political affairs of the super villain and hero world it doesn’t leave a bitter taste in your mouth, instead heightens the tension between Nova and Adrian and their worlds that are about to collide. Morals are questioned. Everyone’s a suspect. Tensions are at a peak.
We also get a little in-depth into Gatlon City and a little more of the Renegades side of operations rather than a mix of Renegade who hunger for peace and Anarchist that lust for vengeance, like the first book contained. You really see how Nova becomes a part of the Renegades and the strong bond between her and her team mates, which by the way is awesome and epic and I love it.
I loved Nova and Adrian in this book more than the first. I found Nova a little too irritating in Renegades but her relationship with Adrian in this book is lustful and delightful and I kept sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for them to finally get together! Since they are a power couple and yet power enemies as well, this is one of the most compelling love tension I have ever read in a YA book and I am here on the side lines cheering them on.
One of the greatest things about the Renegades series is that not only do you find yourself fond of the main characters but all the characters in this series claim a place in your heart. There isn’t a character to hate, dislike or mistrust – they are all so adorable in their own ways. Also Max is delightful and needs more page time, just saying.
The writing in Archenemies was mesmerizing and on comparison to the first book it had improved whish shows the love and effort that Meyer had put into her work.
Again, I highly enjoyed Archenemies rather than Renegades, however it is only by a smidge, they are both brilliant and I highly recommend this series. I cannot wait for the final book and see how their lives twist and unfold.
