Thank you Allen and Unwin for this book in exchange for an honest review
Synopsis:
Trapped aboard the Undying’s ancient spaceship and reeling from what they’ve learned there, scavenger Mia and academic Jules are plunged into a desperate race to warn their home planet of the danger humanity’s greed has unleashed. From the mountains of Spain to the streets of Prague, the sequel to Unearthed is a white-knuckle ride that will send readers hurtling back to earth, and leave them breathless until the last page.
The earth’s fate rests in Mia and Jules’s hands in the epic conclusion to New York Times best-selling authors Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner’s tomb-raiding sci-fi duology
Review:
So straight of the bait, Undying was an improvement to Unearthed. Undying dropped of the boring aspects of Unearthed such as the chapter long puzzle-solving and the inner hear dialogue that was a real big wet blanket in the first book.
Mia and Jules, I’m please to say, stayed consistent from Unearthed to Undying which was amazing to see. I thoroughly enjoy the batter and all the sass between these two characters as they head back to Earth to warn everyone of what is about to come. I found Undying to be jammed pack full of action compared to the first one, Unearthed and the pace of the book was very consistent and engaging.
When comparing Unearthed and Undying I would have to plainly put it that Unearthed was the neglected child, where everything was new, full on and scary. While Undying on the other hand is the second child, you seem to have a better grasp on how to raise this one compared to the first and all the mistakes you made won’t happen with the second child.
Though Undying is far superior to Unearthed I still felt that there were long periods of dialogue when there didn’t need to be. But other than that it was an interesting book compared to Unearthed. There was more of a flow to the story and to the character development.
If futuristic, alien archelogy is you bread and butter than this series is one to check out. I haven’t read a story line remotely similar to this before which gives this series that extra edge it needs.
