Review:
This made an intense movie. As a book full of steampunk and death, it was outdated. I would have highly enjoyed this book back in its prime but now, everything in it, in some small way, had been done before.
Besides the world building of course, cities and towns on wheels on the run from one another to avoid getting eaten, in bloody marvellous but I think the depth of the world lacked details and there were a few parts that I had to re-read before I could form some small image in my mind of how I think it should look.
The characters were pretty cool, though nothing to write home and tell your mum about, but still they aren’t dull, more on the middle of the scale. I really didn’t like how close minded Tom was, at points it drove me insane. I wanted to reach in and slap him across the face. Fine, at the start it makes sense, being born and raised on the London he doesn’t know any better but by the end of it, someone grab the teenagers and wake him the fuck up from la la land. He killed the buzz. A lot.
I did enjoy the villains but let’s face it most villains are my tea and biscuits I thrive off their darkness. However their plans, the plot and pretty much everything in between was predictable. We have seen it all before.
Another part that aggravated me was being in the characters heads and no clear change between them, just simply in one head and now in another, this way we hear all the thoughts. STOP TELLING ME WHAT THEY ARE THINKING. It literally makes guessing the plot and the ending of so easy.
Overall, it was a solid meh. Nothing exciting but it was still better than ACOFAS, so let’s just keep it in the middle and pray the series gets better as it goes.
