The Gilded Wolves, Roshani Chokshi

Synopsis:

It’s 1889. The city is on the cusp of industry and power, and the Exposition Universelle has breathed new life into the streets and dredged up ancient secrets. Here, no one keeps tabs on dark truths better than treasure-hunter and wealthy hotelier Séverin Montagnet-Alarie. When the elite, ever-powerful Order of Babel coerces him to help them on a mission, Séverin is offered a treasure that he never imagined: his true inheritance.

To hunt down the ancient artifact the Order seeks, Séverin calls upon a band of unlikely experts: An engineer with a debt to pay. A historian banished from his home. A dancer with a sinister past. And a brother in arms if not blood.

Together, they will join Séverin as he explores the dark, glittering heart of Paris. What they find might change the course of history–but only if they can stay alive.

Review:

You know how you finish a book and think to yourself… ‘what the hell did I just read?’

That was this book for me. I literally had the book in my hand and I was like what the fuck just happened? Who were these characters? Was there a plot? Did I just nep through this whole book?

Writing this review actually angers me. This book was all over Instagram. Everyone loved it and raved about it. ‘It’s fantastic,’ ‘It is the next big thing in the YA world.’

I mean did we read the same book? Did I get dibbed? This is nowhere near the next big book in the YA world. Not even close man.

I actually felt as though someone ate Six of Crows, drank a butt load of beer and vomited these pages into a nice pretty cover. Legit, this is a ripe off of Six of Crows with less interested characters and names that are too odd to remember.

I know that there are some books out there that are kinda similar in the world. But this wasn’t it. I actually thought this was almost a word for word SOC retelling. Why? SOC is the work of a Goddess, we don’t copy her.

Besides the pretty cover, I didn’t like anything about this book. But I’m going to give it 1 star for cover and effort!
