A Thousand Pieces of You, Claudia Gray

Synopsis:

Marguerite Caine’s physicist parents are known for their groundbreaking achievements. Their most astonishing invention, called the Firebird, allows users to jump into multiple universes—and promises to revolutionize science forever. But then Marguerite’s father is murdered, and the killer—her parent’s handsome, enigmatic assistant Paul— escapes into another dimension before the law can touch him.

Marguerite refuses to let the man who destroyed her family go free. So she races after Paul through different universes, always leaping into another version of herself. But she also meets alternate versions of the people she knows—including Paul, whose life entangles with hers in increasingly familiar ways. Before long she begins to question Paul’s guilt—as well as her own heart. And soon she discovers the truth behind her father’s death is far more sinister than she expected.

Review:

This has legit been sitting on my TBR so long that I actually forgot that it existed. What an idiot. I should have picked this up sooner.

This is a great example of books that characters jump through portals/other worlds/other time zones without feeling like this was being explained to a two year old

I love the twists and turns of this book though the final surprise didn’t really surprise me at all. Saw it coming but damnn it was delivered wonderfully.

Each world that the characters visited was delightfully described and didn’t over deliver on the details. There were descriptions of that realities culture, technology, politics and how the family dynamic all fitted in. Meanwhile the characters adapted to each reality well enough to not lose sight of their mission.

I love it when female characters are the leading character and they have brains. Like praise this writer! Not all woman are the sidekicks that stand there and ask, ‘oh no what do we do now?’ Marguerite led the pack and showed her true intelligence in harsh situations.

Didn’t like the love triangle. Just me though. It’s been overdone and I’m sick of seeing it everywhere we go.
