Own ya shit

I swear I see this all the time and it kills me as to why people do this? They don’t own their shit. They let it loose and before you know it, their shit is shitting on the neighbour’s yard and ya neighbour Karen already dobbing their ass into neighbourhood watch.

Just own ya shit, keep it on a leash and walk around town proud about it!!! Why are you lying to not only everyone else, but to yourself?? Why is it that you need to lie in the first place, own ya shit and be fucking proud about it.

I cannot stress how much I see this in life but also in the bookstagram world and I purely don’t understand why do you feel as though you have to lie about the little things? Just own ya own shit.

Wanna see how simple it is?

Hi I’m Blue and I’m a bitch and I love to pull people up on their shit.

See???? So easy!!! I know people perceive me as not the nicest person in the world because I tend to speak my mind and share my opinions that everyone else doesn’t agree with and therefore it automatically makes me a bitch. And I own it. I embrace it. I take it out to Maccas and buy it a little treat occasionally so it knows I care.

But also on a side note, this lie that people tell themselves and their viewers always turns into double standards which KILLS me, especially when it involves other companies as well. Don’t drag people or companies into your lie, it is just plain Jane, fucking rude!

But you may be sitting there enjoying your tea and wondering what the hell I am on about, well you little cuties, let me tell you examples I see all the time.

The lie: “I am such a fast reader”

Truth:

• It took you a month to finish ACOFAS when you don’t work and weren’t reading anything else…
• You read 50 pages in an hour…. Hunnnnny that definitely doesn’t make you the fastest reader.
• You did an uninterrupted 24 hour readathon and only read one 300 page book

Whilst I am an extremely fast reader I do not compare other readers to myself. I’m just a fucking freak reader, which I own btw. No one cares if you are a fast reader or not, we want to know what you thought of the book!! I don’t give a flying unicorn if the book took you an hour or a month to read, I just want to know why you are lying about being a fast reader?? You should be proud of yourself no matter how fast you read! Honestly as long as you are reading that’s all that counts. The only person you are lying to is yourself!

The lie: “I don’t use any bookish merch, it’s honestly a waste” (Or something along those lines)

Truth:

• I don’t want the merch I have but I’ll get more merch anyway
• I never use these bookish candles, I never need any more…. Oh look a rep search!!

Oh hunny really????? You always talk about how much you don’t use the merch and that it is a waste of your money and it isn’t necessary because you buy/receive it and then it sits there collecting dust. Whilst this is a fair statement and relatable for so many accounts, you still manage to apply for all the rep searches out there…. So you think bookish merch is a waste and you never use it but when a company is offering for you to have it for free you jump on the chance? So why lie about the merch in the first place? I see this all the time and cannot stress how disheartening it is to see that the liar is chosen for the rep position when someone else more deserving and would love to get the rep items, misses out?!?! Realistically you are trying to get as much free shit as possible!!! If you felt that merch was a waste and you never used it then don’t apply for rep searches!!! This actually makes you a scrooge, a merch hungry, giant liar of a scrooge!!

I know rep searches are amazing but be realistic about it. For instance, I only use the one bookmark for all my reads which is currently from @oh.sew.bookish but you won’t see bookmarks in my feed all that often. So if I don’t use bookmarks why would I apply to rep for a bookmark company and waste their time?? I love @readthewriteact and her bookmarks are stunning but I would never offer to rep for her because I would be lying to myself and I don’t want to take advantage of her. Own ya shit people!!

The lie: “I am a worldly reader and read every genre” This is actually my fav!!!

Truth:

• I like to think I am a worldly reader
• I never read anything but the one genre
• I think this will get me more attention on my socials

Oh reallllllly???? But your goodreads, facebook, Instagram and everything else is full of just YA books….. so how does that make you a reader of ever genre…??? Honestly someone answer this one for me cause it confuses the shit outta me!

Personally I read YA, fantasy, sci-fi, horror and crime. But at no point would I read romance because I would rather sit at home and pluck my armpit hairs then read a romance book. Again own ya shit. Why do you need to lie when the facts are right there and the world can see it and they know that you only read one genre?!?!?!

The lie: “I’m after an honest opinion of my book.”

Truth:

• I actually want you to fluff up how amazing of I writer I am
• Please stroke my ego and tell me how good you think I am, even though I haven’t spell check shiiiitttt

I don’t know about this but I get this a fair amount. For those that don’t know I am happy to review/give feedback on a project that you are working on but I ain’t sugar coating shit for you. For starters I don’t get paid for this and I never ask for anything in return, but you wanted my opinion pumpkin and you go it. Don’t be expecting me to love everything that I read which makes me question if people actually pay attention to my feed… or rather just ignore my rants about books.

Don’t go sending me your work and then when I pull you up on errors, plot holes, bad character descriptions, unoriginal stories and everything else. Don’t fucking cry to your mum about how mean Blue was, that shit doesn’t fly with me. If you didn’t want my honest opinion than maybe don’t send your book/writing to me

I had one book that this lady wanted to self-publish and within the first 5 chapters (long not short chapters either) she spent the whole time explaining the family tree and her characters names kept changing. Let’s say I highlighted a lot and sent it back to her with questions and my honest opinion and that didn’t sit well at all and I got an abusive email back. BACK THE FUCK UP YOU DIRT SNIFFING MOLE you wanted my opinion you got my opinion and I gave you my opinion in a very nice manner, I could have been a lot more honest about it to.

These double standards and lies is something that I am over seeing. Own ya shit. We are on this earth for a short amount of time and you shouldn’t lie to yourself and others about anything, not only is this stupid (specially when ya ass gets caught) but it is pointless. You should be proud of yourself and what you can achieve and what you can’t achieve.

Not only is this just a lie but sometimes is a gateway for ‘bullies’. You lying on the internet which there is no turning back from, and your viewers taking note of the lies and then sending your lie to others can cause a chain reaction. You may have people confront you about your lie which you would display as ‘bullying’ but can also be seen from their perspective, as pulling you up on your shit. And where does the line end for that? You see glimpses of this, and it becomes a ‘they said’ and ‘they said’ situation and conversations end up on stories, people get dragged in or involve themselves and it blows up.

But I’m rambling and the bullying vs pulling up shit rant is for another day.

Realistically life is too short for you to lie to yourself and others about the most insignificant things. And if you lie than be prepared to be pulled up on it, because well, that’s what I do best.

Stop lying and enjoy the book world and what it has to offer in a positive way instead of being a derry downer and a lying politician. Read about fantasy worlds, not create one in your head.

If you are sitting there thinking the rant is about you, than maybe you realise that what you are doing is actually lying and should be pulling something away from the rant instead of sitting there crying??? Just saying! If my rant was specifically about you I would have tagged you so don’t get your panties in a fucking bunch.

This rant was actually based of a lot of discussions I have had in the past with other bookstagrammers where we ask ourselves, why are they bothering to lie, we know the truth.

Again not really a person to care if you feel personally victimised by me, I didn’t name and shame you so you should just have a coffee and chill, or maybe a Netflix and chill..? Whatever relaxes you the most.
