The Toll, Neal Shusterman

Thank you to Walker Books for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis:

It’s been three years since Rowan and Citra disappeared; since Scythe Goddard came into power; since the Thunderhead closed itself off to everyone but Grayson Tolliver.

In this pulse-pounding conclusion to New York Times bestselling author Neal Shusterman’s Arc of a Scythe trilogy, constitutions are tested and old friends are brought back from the dead.

Review:

When Walker Books sent me this book I was in extreme shock. This series is honestly my favourite series of all time and if you haven’t read it, well, you really need to! I love book one and two but when I received book three I was really anxious about finishing it. I didn’t want this journey to end and I knew as soon as I started the book, I would have to finish it, which would be the end of the journey. SO I did the only logical thing I could think of. I put of reading this book for as long as possible. See logical?!

Starting with one of my favourite characters, let’s chat about Goddard. For those that don’t know, he is the villain. (Side note if you don’t know then read the Scythe and Thunderhead before reading this review!!) Goddard is one of my ultimate fav villains! He is maniacal, brutal and conniving and I on my knees bowing down to this brute. There were points of reading this book that you wouldn’t predict what he was going to do or his ultimate plan and I love him.

Another reason why this book would have to be my favourite in the series would be that you get to read it from multiple POV’s *scream* including Goddards! But you get to read from Citra, Rowan, Scythe Morrison, Greyson and even the Thunderhead itself! The chapters from the different POV was substantial enough that you were able to follow not only the whole story but the individual’s stories as well without any confusion. It is always fascinating to read the conclusion from multiple points of views and their opinions on it, instead of having a singular character just tell you how it is.

From start to finish this was an amazing book and one that I will never forget. The writing of Shusterman is something to aspire to and enjoy. I think I will need to reread this whole series from start to finish again!
