Synopsis:

Inception meets The Magicians in the most imaginative YA debut of the year!

All Kane Montgomery knows for certain is that the police found him half-dead in the river. He can’t remember how he got there, what happened after, and why his life seems so different now. And it’s not just Kane who’s different, the world feels off, reality itself seems different.

As Kane pieces together clues, three almost-strangers claim to be his friends and the only people who can truly tell him what’s going on. But as he and the others are dragged into unimaginable worlds that materialize out of nowhere—the gym warps into a subterranean temple, a historical home nearby blooms into a Victorian romance rife with scandal and sorcery—Kane realizes that nothing in his life is an accident. And when a sinister force threatens to alter reality for good, they will have to do everything they can to stop it before it unravels everything they know.

This wildly imaginative debut explores what happens when the secret worlds that people hide within themselves come to light

Review:

This is one of those books that you don’t see on everyone’s feed but when you do you see them raving about it. Which can either mean that only a handful of people like it OR not many people know how amazing it is. Either way I had to find out.

Let’s start with our main character, Kane, who is out and owns it. For a young teenager, he speaks his mind and isn’t afraid to put people back in their place when they speak out of turn. So with a tough exterior, Kane is kind at heart and realistically the kind of character we all need in our lives.

While the remainder of the characters are interesting and enjoyable, they just don’t take the cake like Kane does.

Basically the description of ‘Inception meets The Magicians’ is very accurate. Reveries access a portal into people’s dreams and can either watch the dreams be peaceful and wonderful or they can lead into complete anguish.

While the story is complex and there are a lot of details to take in about the characters and what their general storyline goes. So if you can enjoy complex character (complex enough to make you want to create a flow chart) and deviously wicked writing, I would highly suggest that you pick up this book and devour it!!
