Thank you Penguin Random House for this book in exchange for an honest review
Synopsis:
When Katie Straw’s body is pulled from the waters of the local suicide spot, the police decide it’s an open-and-shut case. A standard-issue female suicide.
But the residents of Widringham women’s refuge where Katie worked don’t agree. They say it’s murder.
Will you listen to them?
Reviews:
This book was a little too over the shop for me. Don’t get me wrong I LIVE for crime books with a twist and while Keeper ticks those boxes for me, there were a lot of elements that just didn’t sit right?
There was one chapter were our leading lady is in the hospital after a fire. But the interactions with her partner and the nurse was soo familiar that I have read it before. Like down to the T! Usually I am really good at picking endings and plot twist but this went beyond that. I knew exactly what was going to happen because it was a major case of déjà vu. MAJOR CASE of déjà vu.
I found that the past and present chapters were paced out brilliantly, and you weren’t thrown from one time frame to another without knowing what the hell was happening. I also enjoyed the realness of it as well. I mean how many times do females live or suffer from domestic abuse and male (even female) police just shrug it off. Surprisingly it happens more than we realise and it is something that needs to change.
Overall this book was an okay read? It didn’t wow me and didn’t leave me wanting to stay up until the early hours of the morning to finish it either..?
