Majesty, Katharine McGee

Thank you to Penguin Teen Australia for this book in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis:

Is America ready for its first queen?

Power is intoxicating. Like first love, it can leave you breathless. Princess Beatrice was born with it. Princess Samantha was born with less. Some, like Nina Gonzalez, are pulled into it. And a few will claw their way in. Ahem, we’re looking at you Daphne Deighton.

As America adjusts to the idea of a queen on the throne, Beatrice grapples with everything she lost when she gained the ultimate crown. Samantha is busy living up to her “party princess” persona…and maybe adding a party prince by her side. Nina is trying to avoid the palace–and Prince Jefferson–at all costs. And a dangerous secret threatens to undo all of Daphne’s carefully laid “marry Prince Jefferson” plans.

A new reign has begun…

Review:

Ohhh I was soooo excited to read this book! I adored the first one and just knew that this book would be just as amazing!

Whilst there were a few aspects that I wasn’t a fan of I still really enjoyed the book as a whole.

Let’s start with Beatrice how damn majestic she is!?!?! My favourite character from book one is back and taking names! What I adore about Beatrice the most is that this strong and confident woman is dealing with the grief of losing her father, stepping into leadership shoes and is working against the standard powerful white old men that react negatively towards her because she is FEMALE! And ya girl literally takes it in her strides and faces them full on! I love this. Not only is this character realistic and relatable but she speaks volumes of truth. I don’t know how many times an old white guy thought they could instruct me to not so something because they believe they can do it better but hopefully this character inspires people to not be taken down by someone else!

Sam…. Well I wasn’t a big fan of her personality in the first book and that carried over to the second. I know her whiny personality separated her from the herd of friends and links to the plot of the book, but I didn’t have the energy to deal with her in the first book and that carried over to this book.

Nina. I love how Nina is a side character that helps elevate Daphne and her role in the book, but it would have been great to see some more character development for Nina.

Daphne is still the baddest bitch that I love! She is still as ruthless, conniving and evil, and I just adore it. I love bad ass characters like this!

And the guys? Well they were in it but I honestly them second to the leading ladies! The plot was delightful and entertaining, but a selfish part of me wanted this book to be longer? Maybe we can get more books later on down the track? I hope so! Regardless, the young preteen in me loves this book and this series!
