Thank you Penguin Teen Australia for this book in exchange for an honest review
Synopsis:
Illumen Hall is an elite boarding school. Tragedy strikes when the body of a student is discovered at their exclusive summer party – on her back is an elaborate tattoo of a magpie.
When new girl Audrey arrives the following term, running from her own secrets back home in America, she is thrown into solving the case. Despite her best efforts to avoid any drama, her new roommate Ivy was close to the murdered girl, and the two of them can’t help but get pulled in.
The two can’t stand each other, but as they are drawn deeper into the mystery of this strange and terrible murder, they will discover that something dangerous is at the heart of their superficially perfect school.
Welcome to The Magpie Society
Review:
Loving the fact that there are more and more murder mysteries being published! For so long it was such a select few that enjoyed this genre but now it’s winding up on all types of bookcases and I am SO DOWN FOR THIS! I am also really down with this cover, I mean look at it!
The Magpie Society is set in an English Boarding school with a mysterious history within the walls. When Audrey, an America, enrols there she is swept up with the grand exterior until she discovers that the summer just gone, a dead body is washed up on the beach with a magpie tattoo on their back.
Zoe and Amy have teamed up to deliver one of the best mysterious that I have read in a while. You find yourself on the edge of your seat and swept up in the chaos and mystery that is The Magpie Society. Not to mention that the writing is fantastic, no drawn out paragraphs and pointless conversations with the characters, this book is direct! I loved that there were questions left an unanswered as well, it’s always great to let the reader incorporate a little imagination into their reads.
