Unbirthday, Liz Braswell

Thank you Scholastic Books for this book in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis:

What if Wonderland was in peril and Alice was very late?

Eighteen-year-old Alice is very different to the other ladies in Kexford. She enjoys spending afternoons with her trusty camera, ignoring pressure from her sister to become a ‘respectable’ member of society.

But when the familiar faces of the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter and the Caterpillar begin appearing in her photographs, Alice finds herself returning to the place of nonsense from her childhood to stop the Queen’s tyrannical rule before the End of Time.

Review:

I think that Liz Braswell would have to be in my top 5 story re-tellers, her stories are always unique and interesting and she has a knack of bringing these classic retellings to life!

If the name of the book left mystery of what this book is about then let me burst your bubble and say Hercules!!! Kidding… that hasn’t been published yet. This one is about Alice. An older Alice armed with a camera and is able to capture her perspective to the world only to find that her old favourites, Mad Hatter and the caterpillar wind up in her photos, looking dishevelled and begging for help.

This was a brilliant split of Alice in wonderland and Alice in Victorian time as an adult and I loved it.
