The Cousins, Karen M. McManus

Thank you Penguin Teen Australia for this book in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis:

Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they’ve never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they’re surprised… and curious.

Their parents are all clear on one point—not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother’s good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it’s immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious—and dark—their family’s past is.

The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn’t over—and this summer, the cousins will learn everything

Review:

Was I hanging out for this book? Why yes I was.

I adore this collection by Karen, they are fast paced, entertaining and a real good YA – who dun it!

The Cousins is about Milly, Aubrey and Jonah who are cousins and barely know each other due to their family history. These rich kids get the chance to meet their grandmother who had their whole family written out of the will. So with their parents encouragement, they find themselves at the doorstop of their long lost grandmother, but it isn’t all what it seems.

I love the characters, and their backstories that are delivered in flashbacks throughout the book as the drama builds, which adds to the tension. While the twist was (in my case) easy to pin point, it was still entertaining to watch this book unfold and the final conclusion burn up!
