Thank you Walker Books for this book in exchange for an honest review
Synopsis:
All it takes is one hit on the football field, and suddenly Ash’s life doesn’t look quite the way he remembers it.
Impossible though it seems, he’s been hit into another dimension—and keeps on bouncing through worlds that are almost-but-not-really his own.
The changes start small, but they quickly spiral out of control as Ash slides into universes where he has everything he’s ever wanted, universes where society is stuck in the past…universes where he finds himself looking at life through entirely different eyes.
Review:
Neal Shusterman is and always will be my go-to author. Not only is his writing fantastic but you can always see how he strives to create something new and needed in a growing and every changing society.
Game Changer is about a white straight male called Ash, or as one might call him, privileged. But soon after we meet the character, glitches in the space-time continuum, cause Ash to experience life through different identities. Lives that he was obliviously unaware of around him. As he glitches through the parallel universes that range from mildly uncomfortable to deeply disturbing, Ash grows as a character. Living lives as people who had money, or no money, a different sexual orientation, a different gender and even those that were facing abuse, causes Ash to really grow as a character and change how he sees the people around him.
While the plot does sound a little full on, I would still recommend that you read this book. It is really eye opening and stands to reason, that a better understanding of what people are going through, can make people generally a lot more sympathetic and not stuck in their old Karen ways.
