Thank you NewSouth Publishing for this book in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis:

Long ago Miren O’Malley’s family prospered due to a deal struck with the Mer: safety for their ships in return for a child of each generation. But for many years the family have been unable to keep their side of the bargain and have fallen into decline. Miren’s grandmother is determined to restore their glory, even at the price of Miren’s freedom.

A spellbinding tale of dark family secrets, magic and witches, and creatures of myth and the sea; of strong women and the men who seek to control them.

Review:

This might have been one of the few books that I was really looking forward to reading this year, and well you know my theory on blue books, they are always amazing!

Miren is the last of the O’Malleys which are an old mysterious family that aren’t afraid to tangle with the darkness. When the dealings and dabbling in the darkness is beginning to close around Miren’s freedom, she takes her life into her own hands.

This dark fantasy book was delightful and well balanced! There wasn’t a moment where the pacing was off, information dumped on you and characters growing dull. The whole book from start to finish was entertaining and Slatter’s managed to build a world where you can immerse yourself
