Thank you Bloomsbury for this book in exchange for an honest review
Synopsis:
In the wake of loss and devastation, Alex must cast aside her grief to seek aid from those who banished the Meyarins long ago. But the proud Tia Aurans care little for the woes of mortals and demand that Alex-and her friends-undergo the Gates of Testing to prove their world is worth saving.
With an ancient prophecy looming, Alex must confront the secrets of her past if she is to survive long enough to see the future. For if she returns to Medora without the Tia Aurans by her side, all hope for her world will be lost.
In this explosive conclusion to The Medoran Chronicles, the fate of Medora hangs in the balance as Alex readies herself to face Aven one final time.
Who will survive, and who will fall?
Review:
**CONTAINS SPOILERS**
So I decided to write the review as I read the book.. bit of a change …
Let’s start the book by talking abut how amazing Alex is.
Ohh look more amazing Alex notes
Ohh the battles was hard…. for everyone but Alex
Better get help from a new far off place..
Better talk about her scale skin again that is magically hidden all the time. Like her secret sword, her amazing combat skills. Like seriously how much can one character be truly blessed with all the gifts… she isn’t bloody Dumbledore
Again Alex has to prove herself worthy… what a shock. Let me guess we spend the whole book trying to prove how worthy she is?
Oh look she is put into a skimpy outfit like a fake wonder woman… gotta get that sex appeal.
**Side note though… I mean if some strangers came into your land and you want them to battle it out why are you going to dress them up like a sexy wonder woman? Stick them in the pit with the clothes they already have on… or maybe in some jelly and have them naked wrestle… just saying…
Alex having internal struggles.. ohhh noooo the silver platter life is soo hard and stressful.
But still dressed like royalty… Umm bitch you’re an intruder… why is she always treated like a queen?
Playful banter is dulll like a dead bird.. none of the characters original sparks are in this book. Where is the original banter? I feel as though this has all been said before?
Over explaining… Again
Oh look Alex is having internal struggles again….
Ooops need to mention how amazing Alex is with her training and the tests Niyx put her through and her Meyarin blood.. Again
Seriously why did Nixy die… He was one character I loved.
3 pages on planning to climb the mountain.. 3 whole pages.
Of course the challenge has survival kits and water along the way. Wouldn’t want the precious characters to actually struggle. Still climbing the mountain by the way..
Isn’t there a war going on? I love how the war pauses for the characters to undergo challenges. War is sitting back and having a tea break while Alex is on a mission to prove herself.
Oh look they keep beating challenges how is Alex this amazing all the time. Doesn’t her body burst for all this awesomeness
Over explaining..
Another friend betrayal but it’s okay they still love each other… this will happen ten more times.
Ohh look the challenges of Alex and her friends proving herself is still ongoing like I thought it would.
Alex fighting a warrior with a blade and winning.. All young teenagers do right??
Page 244 still carrying out the test… War is just casually waiting for Alex to prove herself… Again
Oh look her friends get kidnapped… Who will save them? Oh no!
I like Aven he should be allowed to kill Alex, you know just as a side note.
Oh nooo they have her parents too… How is this possible
Ohhh Alex rescues everyone. Who would have thought?
The dragon Xira dies but Alex lives… What fucked up shit is this.. she must be able to reverse time or something
Oh wait she legit just changed time… wow she might be a better wizard then Dumbledore after all.
Ohh look now everyone is saved.
Glad those last what 50 pages were saved for the battle…
Don’t get me wrong I fricken love Lynette’s writing style and will be purchasing her other series as it comes out (I still have yet to read Whisper) but what bugs me is the character and story flaws in this book. All the gifts are given to Alex. All the challenges are easy for Alex. She doesn’t seem to struggle and this is setting up the wrong kinda image, life aint this damn easy and it would have been nice for other characters to actually have some awesome stuff happen to them instead of the oh favourite Alex. I would literally have given this book a 5 stars if Aven stabbed Alex in the head with a fork…
