Harrow Lake, Kat Ellis

Thank you Penguin for this book in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis:

Welcome to Harrow Lake. Someone’s expecting you . . .

Lola Nox is the daughter of a celebrated horror filmmaker – she thinks nothing can scare her.

But when her father is brutally attacked in their New York apartment, she’s swiftly packed off to live with a grandmother she’s never met in Harrow Lake, the eerie town where her father’s most iconic horror movie was shot.

The locals are weirdly obsessed with the film that put their town on the map – and there are strange disappearances, which the police seem determined to explain away.

And there’s someone – or something – stalking her every move.

The more Lola discovers about the town, the more terrifying it becomes. Because Lola’s got secrets of her own. And if she can’t find a way out of Harrow Lake, they might just be the death of her.

Review:

Oh good.

My dark soul was finally satisfied. Extremely and utterly satisfied.

In my opinion there needs to be more books life this, that pushes the boundaries. Everyone is relying on that happy ended which NEVER HAPPENS. Dark books like this are needed in the YA world to break up the everyday same story different day.

Lola is the daughter of a horror film director, Nolan Fox. (I know, I’m already jealous!) Nolan directs a popular movie Nightjar in Harrow Lake, which is a small town that has suddenly been put on the map with this film and is loving the tourism that follows. But this town has its own creepy legends that suddenly come out to play…

Alright so there was only one thing that I found slightly annoying but I got over it by the end of the book and that was the fact that Lola was incredibly annoying, but I eventually saw how her personality worked into the plot of the book. So if you brace yourself for an annoying main character when you start this book, it will make her personality a little bit more tolerable.

Other then that minor fact, I fricken adored this book!!! There is a real 80’s feel to this book, which was basically when the best horror movies were made, but it had that typical small town, urban legend and of course you get that cult horror movie. See, this is how this book really soothed my dark soul with every single page!!

I loved this. I honestly fricken loved this. This is what we need to see more of. The writing was OUTSTANDING. The plot was FANTASTIC. Everything was fricken AWESOME!!

This is by far, my favourite book if 2020!!
