Thank you Hachette for this book in exchange for an honest review
Synopsis:
Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality.
Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world in the wake of her family’s sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt’s promises of eternal glory. For years she’s pushed away any thought of revenge against the man–now a god–responsible for their deaths.
Yet as the next hunt dawns over New York City, two participants seek out her help: Castor, a childhood friend of Lore believed long dead, and a gravely wounded Athena, among the last of the original gods.
The goddess offers an alliance against their mutual enemy and, at last, a way for Lore to leave the Agon behind forever. But Lore’s decision to bind her fate to Athena’s and rejoin the hunt will come at a deadly cost–and still may not be enough to stop the rise of a new god with the power to bring humanity to its knees
Review:
Did I fricken loose my shit on this book??
Why yes I did.
This was incredibly epic, that it took me some time to start the review. And you see the above? Yep, it still left me unable to form word like the unworthy peasant that I am.
So, the book legit starts will Lore fighting in an underground ring – like full on FIGHT CLUB style!! SO straight away you are drawn into the story and living for the next page!
Basically every 7 years, the Agon begins. Where all 9 Greek gods have to walk on Earth as punishment. Lore who escaped this world when her family was murdered by some gods has now been approached to help them. Now Lore must find out who murdered her family.
The friendship group that surrounds Lore, is genuine, sassy and I am here for it. The world building was beautiful, descriptive and vivid. The Greek mythology? Holy olive branch – it was accurate, ingenious, and just over all bloody brilliant!!
Seriously? I love it! It is already my favourite book of the year and dare I say that it will remain my favourite book of the year!!!
Bow down to the goddess Bracken!
