Thank you Hachette for this book in exchange for an honest review
Synopsis:
Far North Queensland, 1993: At 74, former cane farmer Grace Maud is feeling her age, and her isolation, and thinks the best of life may be behind her. Elsewhere in town, high school teacher Patricia has given up on her dreams of travel and adventure and has moved back home to look after her ageing parents, while cafe owner Dorothy is struggling to accept that she may never have the baby she and her husband so desperately want. Each woman has an unspoken need: reconnection. And that’s how they find themselves at Orange Blossom House, surrounded by perfumed rainforest, being cajoled and encouraged by their yoga teacher, the lively Sandrine. Together, they will find courage and strength – and discover that life has much more to offer than they ever expected
Review:
Friends are found in odd places, like a yoga class where you meet a high-school teacher, café owner and a retired cane farmer, riddled with aches and pains of age and work. Under the instruction of Sandrine and her alluding accent, Grace, Patricia, and Dorothy find their core amongst the scenic rainforest and discover that life has more than originally suggested.
Green has wowed with another novel; this is her third I believe, and it was delightful and light to read! Two things that I pulled away from this, the first being that ‘damn that aussie can write’ and maybe I should start doing yoga, since it was written so eloquently. Green has a way to deliver raw and feisty characters in an entertaining and soft way, which brilliantly captures aussie at our finest. Rude but kind. Harsh but squishy!
I would recommend this delightful tale of friendship be consumed with coffee and biscuits in front of the fire due to the fact you start and can easily enjoy the whole book in one sitting!
