Amara’s Rose, Brianna Goux

Thank you to the author that gave me this book in exchange for an honest review.

Synopsis:

The Key is a sacred object which allows its holder to open portals to other planets at will. Passed down through her family the Key marks Rose as the Gatekeeper for the planet of Amara and entrusts her with keeping it safe from harm.

This is a job she had always known to be laid back – that is, until her mortal enemy attacks. Admist a battle to protect her home, Rose disappears. Waking up on Earth she discovers the portals have stoped working and that she must team up with Earth’s Gatekeeper, Derek, to get back to Amara.

The clock is ticket as Rose’s friends on Amara try to determine where Rose went and how to bring her home, all the while fearing she may be lost forever.

As the struggle to return continues, something more sinister grows out of sight, and more than the lives of those on Amara are at stake.

Review:

I always say this and will always say this. I love finding great books written by indie authors, it constantly makes you realise how talented people are and how many are yet to be discovered. It is an amazing feeling like finding $5 in your jeans pocket. Completely winning!

Amara’s Rose is a delightful tale based around a sacred Key which opens portals to other planets at the will of its owner. The Key was passed down to our main character Rose, from generations of family members that once had the responsibility of the Gatekeeper. As the Gatekeeper for the planet Amara, Rose is delegated the task of protecting her home planet, even when it becomes under attack. In the prime of battle, Rose winds up waking up on Earth unable to access the portals and return home. Entrusting her faith in Earth’s Gatekeeper Derek to assist her to get home before time runs out for those she cares about back on Amara.
Though the book had a slow start, it didn’t take too long to be devoured by the smooth writing that Brianna Goux delivers. Goux has a great writing style, she wasn’t over descriptive and I didn’t find her repetitive once.

I have to admit, sci-fi books aren’t usually my bag of chocolate flavoured cookies and I thought the traveling in portals would be too much for my coffee flavoured brain to handles. However the portals weren’t a major element in this book for me, more time was spent on the characters home planets which suited me just fine. So if you aren’t keen beans on sci-fi like me then this is a book you can definitely read.

With such a unique story line and delightful characters, I cannot wait to see what the sequel brings! Please don’t stop writing Brianna Goux, you have talent and I will definitely be following your journey as a writer!!!
