Review: ‘Sway’ Michelle Ham

Synopsis:

Saskia Brookes has always tried her best to do the right thing. So why has she been forgotten? Her rebellious best friend Eliza is drifting away, and her parents are preoccupied with bigger issues than Saskia’s loneliness. As it is, her bratty little sister has a better love life than she does – it’s just not fair! Saskia, keen to find her purpose, volunteers to help thwart the plans of the impending local New Age (read: evil) festival. It’s for a good cause, and it doesn’t hurt that her church’s charming young pastor is the organiser of the whole undertaking. But unexpected developments show her the highs and lows of human nature, along with the thrill of first love, causing her to re-examine all she holds dear as she stands on the daunting (and often confusing) precipice of adulthood. Will the winds of change tempt her to sway, or prompt her to ramp up her faith and pray?

Review:

I am truly honoured to get approached by Michelle Ham to review her book ‘Sway’ This Australian YA novel is home hitting and I found it fascinating and relatable to read.

When you flip through the first few pages of the book, your first impression delightful and you will smile as you find yourself looking down at this cute illustration of the cover done by Sienna Ham. Before I started reading the novel I knew I would enjoy this.

I will always have a great love for Australian writers and I would honestly say if you are an Australian and grew up in the 90’s than this is the book you need to read. The characters are relatable and I found the sentence structure easy to read yet detailed. I loved the diversity and acceptance of the strong-willed characters in this story and only wished there was more story involving Jesse (only because he was my favourite).

I recommend that you read this book and hopefully pick up on the Aussie slang.

You can find Michelle Ham’s book Sway in Collins stores and also on Amazon, but I always recommend reaching out to the author as well. She is lovely and you can contact her via Instagram @michellehamwriter.

Michelle: Thanks again for the lovely pleasure of reviewing your book! I enjoyed every step of your story and I hope to read more of your work soon.
